FTIR spectroscopy is used primarily for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of organic compounds and for analyzing a few inorganic substances. The speed and sensitivity offered by FTIR spectrometers allows for rapid evaluation of analytes and trace materials down to nanogram levels. Sample preparation for FTIR spectroscopy is minimal and samples can be identified as solids, liquids or gases, and also in situ.
