Despite an always-tough funding environment and the other challenges involved in doing research, based upon past results of our annual Salary & Job Satisfaction Survey, lab professionals are generally satisfied with their work. In fact, last year’s survey showed an increase in job satisfaction among respondents.
With even more challenges seemingly on the horizon for scientific research, with possible budget cuts to the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Science Foundation, among others, plus the potential loss of European Union funding if Brexit goes through in the U.K., it will be interesting to see how that affects the feedback of our respondents in this year’s survey, which is currently open.
If you haven’t yet taken the survey, be sure to take some time to complete it here. We very much value your input as it allows us to uncover trends among the laboratory workforce. And, as any scientist knows, the more people who take the survey, the stronger the data! Last year, for example, survey results revealed that young lab professionals were still struggling to break into the lab workforce and gender-based wage inequality was still a problem in the sciences. Any time you can take to help us out is much appreciated, and you’ll be entered into a draw for a $50 Amazon.com gift card upon completion of the survey as a thank you! You’ll learn what trends we’ve uncovered this year when the results are published in our September issue.
Speaking of surveys, our Frost & Sullivan readership survey is also now underway to help us determine how well we’re serving our readers. While we know your time is limited, again, we appreciate you taking a few moments to tell us how we’re doing. Whether you think we’re doing great or if there’s room for improvement, we’d like to know so we can continue to enhance Lab Manager’s print and web offerings. Though these results won’t be shared in an upcoming issue, they will guide us as we develop our Editorial Calendar for 2018 and beyond. If you’re a subscriber to Lab Manager and haven’t yet received a link to the Frost & Sullivan survey, feel free to drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks to all of you who have already provided feedback. We’re looking forward to crunching the data and sharing the results of the Salary & Job Satisfaction Survey with you in September and learning how we can improve our content from the data gathered from our readership survey.
