It's Official!

MIDLAND, ON-- Oct 27, 2011 - LabX Media Group, parent company to LabX.com, Lab Manager Magazine, and LabWrench.com, announced today that it has finalized the acquisition of print and digital publication for The Scientist magazine from Sciencenow Inc., a member of The Science Navigation Group.

LabX Media Group welcomes the addition of The Scientist to their print and digital publishing portfolio. The acquisition of The Scientist and the-scientist.com will complement LabX Media Group's existing media products and enable them to extend their reach to a respected audience of life science professionals.

The Scientist magazine has been the leading source of information for science professionals globally since its founding 25 years ago by Eugene Garfield as a trade tabloid, and LabX Media Group looks to continue this trend. LabX Media Group President Bob Kafato is emphatic, "The Scientist will continue on the great editorial pathway it exhibits now. We will seek ways to deliver even more value to our readers for their time spent interacting with the magazine. After acquiring Lab Manager Magazine in 2008, we were able to triple its size in only three years, despite a declining market. We plan to apply the knowledge gained from that experience as we move forward with publishing The Scientist. Our company is committed to keeping The Scientist intriguing and interesting to our 56,000 print subscribers, more than 400,000 e-mail newsletter subscribers, and 310,000 monthly visitors. We look forward to serving our audience."

Kafato comments, "Print advertising remains strong and we are excited to marry the print with the digital strengths our core online business provides. With improved economies of scale, the print edition will continue for many foreseeable years to come. We believe our strong Internet background running LabX for the past 16 years can bring invaluable digital foresight to this publication."The Scientist 25th Anniversary Cover

Bob Kafato went on, "I also want to acknowledge the thoughtfulness of the management and owner of Sciencenow who have been, and continue to be, extremely helpful and supportive of our effort to make this acquisition quickly and smoothly because the principle driving force to make this deal happen was quite simply to save the employees' jobs and to save the institution of The Scientist. It was a selfless act and we are very grateful for that."

Mary Beth Aberlin, Editor in Chief of The Scientist, said, "My wonderful editorial team and I are delighted to be able to remain together and to jump right back in to preparing another issue of the magazine after such a short hiatus. We've been energized by the outpouring of reader support and look forward to the future."

LabX Media Group and the continuing staff from The Scientist are already setting the stage for the much anticipated release of a November/December combined first issue under the new ownership. The New Year will see the publication back on a regular monthly publishing schedule.
