EPA Method 1664 describes the determination of n-hexane extractable material (HEM; oil and grease) in surface and saline waters and industrial and domestic wastewater. Speakers

Dr. Clarence L. Haile is executive vice president and laboratory director of REI Consultants, Inc., also known as REIC Labs. He spent the first 14 years of his professional career with Midwest Research Institute, conducting and directing numerous environmental research programs under contract to US EPA, US DOD, and industrial clients. Since 1989, he has managed commercial environmental laboratories, first with a national multi-laboratory firm, and since 2005, with REI Consultants, Inc. Throughout his career, Dr. Haile has consistently utilized automated analytical systems to increase laboratory productivity and reduce operating costs.

David Smith, technical specialist at Environmental Express, has a Bachelor’s of Science in chemistry from the University of South Carolina. A former contract environmental laboratory analyst and wet chemistry manager, he is the lead technical resource for Environmental Express, consulting with customers regarding EE’s innovations and method adaptations. He is a member of the Standard Methods Committee and ASTM. David’s insights into lab automation will help you improve the profitability of your lab.
