Problem: In a wide variety of industries, Karl Fischer reagents are used routinely for moisture determination. The approaches currently employed to transfer the Karl Fischer reagent from a bottle or regular glass ampoule to a cathode cell vary and involve cumbersome steps. From a safety standpoint, the current methods risk spills, waste, contamination of the bottle contents, or in the case of glass ampoules, pose a risk from broken glass and sharp edges.
- Unscrew and remove the bottle cap, insert a syringe or pipet and pull up desired amount, remove the syringe from the bottle and insert it into the cathode, dispense the reagent and remove the syringe, and reseal the bottle.
- Using padding to protect fingers, break off the tip of the regular glass ampoule and pull the contents out with a syringe or pipet. The reagent is then transferred into the cathode.
- Protecting fingers, break off the tip of the regular glass ampoule, invert the ampoule and shake the contents into a funnel or, even directly into the cathode. Use care to prevent splashing or loss of reagent.
What if we can improve the dispensing methods to save time, minimize hazards, and enhance precision all at the same time? GFS is one company that offers a single integrated solution to mitigate current challenges facing the end user.
Solution: Double ended ampoules deliver easier, faster, and safer dispensing of GFS WaterMark® Cathode Reagents. This approach not only saves time but enables safe handling and accurate delivery. The end user experiences 60 percent greater efficiency with multiple titrations.
Hold the ampoule in one hand and use the blue snapeasy tool included in the kit for breaking off the tip. The removed tip is retained in the tool. Invert the ampoule over the cathode and use the same tool to snap off and retain the other tip. When the tip is removed, the vacuum is released, allowing the reagent to flow rapidly into the cathode cell of the coulometric titrator. What’s more, the hassle-free snap tool allows for an easy method to collect the glass tips from the ends of the ampoules. Each 10-pack contains the tool.
