Biomarkers of Alcohol Abuse
Hydrophilic Interaction Liquid Chromatography (HILIC) offers advantages when detecting ethanol biomarkers
Alcohol abuse is on the rise in the United States, accounting for approximately 88,000 deaths annually. With such high numbers, there is growing demand for ethanol testing. While direct testing is challenging, as ethanol is quickly eliminated from the body, several ethanol metabolites offer utility as indirect biomarkers of alcohol abuse. Key among these are ethyl glucuronide (EtG) and ethyl sulfate (EtS).
