New IFT Video Spotlights A Day in the Life of an FDA Food Scientist

The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) is proud to introduce a new video in the “Day in the Life of a Food Scientist” series that shows what it’s like to be a food scientist at the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

IFT member Cory Bryant, PhD, CFS, shows in a recent video how the US FDA works with other countries to improve food safety so that future generations have access to a safe and abundant global food supply.Image courtesy of IFTIn the video, Cory Bryant, PhD, CFS International Public Health and Trade Manager, FDA Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition talks about his job helping to ensure food safety in a global environment. 

The video shows how Bryant and his colleagues work together to set the policy and write the regulations and enforce them to be sure that the food coming into the U.S. is safe.  Bryant’s background brings insight into the actual science behind what’s being regulated and helps the FDA team work with foreign governments on a variety of food issues.

“We’ve made tremendous strides in public health and the United States does have one of the safest, if not the safest food supply in the world,” says Bryant. “And at the end of the day, that brings me a lot of satisfaction, to know that I've contributed to that hopefully in some small way.”

The “Day in the Life of a Food Scientist” videos are designed to educate students, teachers, media, and the general public about the positive impact and rewards of the food science and technology profession.
