Lawsuits Alleging Research Theft Settled

Two lawsuits alleging the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center president started a biotech company based on groundbreaking research stolen from the University of Pennsylvania have been dismissed after those involved came to a resolution late Friday.

The University of Pennsylvania, The Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute at the Abramson Cancer Center of UPenn, Craig Thompson, M.D., Agios Pharmaceuticals and Celgene Corporation issued this statement regarding the lawsuits:

New York, New York, August 31, 2012 - The parties to the lawsuits captioned, The Leonard and Madlyn Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute at the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania v. Craig Thompson, M.D., Agios Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and Celgene Corporation and Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania v. Craig Thompson, M.D., and Agios Pharmaceuticals, Inc., are pleased to announce that they have entered into an agreement that will result in the dismissal of both cases in their entirety. The terms of the parties’ agreement are confidential.
