7 Questions to Ask When Buying Specialty Gases or a Gas Generator

High purity, ultra-high purity, and research grade specialty gases are tested for impurities including oxygen, moisture, hydrocarbons, etc. They are often used for chemical synthesis, as carrier gases, and even as analytical standards. Gas generators offer a reliable, cost effective solution for laboratories that require nitrogen, hydrogen, calibration gas, zero air, and more.

  1. What is your application? Which gases are required and what grade is necessary?
  2. What are your current laboratory gas costs? Would a gas generator be more cost effective?
  3. How much noise does the gas generator produce?
  4. What is the flow rate and operating temperature?
  5. What volume of gas do you require? Do you anticipate this will increase over time?
  6. What is the cost of the gas, delivery, and tank rental fee?
  7. What delivery system (valve, regulator) is required?

Maintenance Tip

There are a few signs to look for that indicate it is time to service or replace your gas generator. A loud compressor, clogged air filter, or malfunctioning leak detection alarms mean it is time for service. To keep your generator functioning optimally, it is important to conduct annual preventive maintenance that includes changing filters. If working with compressed gas cylinders, check the cylinders for rust or pitting upon delivery.
