Laboratory activities often generate chemical wastes defined as “hazardous wastes” under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations. Hazardous wastes must be identified, collected, labeled, stored, and disposed as per the relevant regulations to avoid worker exposure risks, environmental damage, and costly enforcement penalties. This course is an introductory-level presentation of the complex world of RCRA requirements with an emphasis on a risk reduction through waste minimization.

As an attendee, you will learn more about:

  • RCRA regulations for waste identification, collection, and management
  • Waste management challenges unique to a lab environment
  • Special RCRA provisions for wastes generated from academic labs
