In sequencing laboratories, lab managers and scientists have to face many scientific challenges. Having to worry about the quality of the water they use shouldn’t be one of them. In this webinar, you will get advice from Dr. Sean Kennedy, of the MetaGenoPolis NGS platform, MetaQuant, regarding best practices for high-throughput sequencing. He will share his experience and help you make the right decisions concerning water for your laboratory. Dr. Estelle Riché, technical expert with EMD Millipore, will then provide a deeper insight into laboratory water purification and monitoring, and explain how to select the appropriate technologies for your laboratory.

As an attendee, you will learn more about:

  • How to optimize your set-up, from DNA quantification to NGS library construction and sequencing
  • How to obtain reliable output from Ion Proton™ and SOLiD™ sequencers
  • What contaminants may be in your laboratory water and how they can be removed and monitored
  • Tips about how to obtain optimal water quality from your water purification system

Sean P Kennedy, PhD, is co-director of the MetaGenoPolis NGS platform, MetaQuant at INRA (www.inra.fr) . His aim is to use sequencing data and advanced analysis of the human intestinal micro-flora to translate information from clinical studies into diagnostic and prognostic tools for use by doctors and patients. He has participated in the sequence and analysis of metagenomic data for the European project MetaHIT and the French government-funded project MicroObes. He currently coordinates sequencing and analysis activities in the European commission PF7 projects EvoTAR (www.evotar.eu) and MetaCardis (www.metacardis.eu). He holds a PhD from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Dr. Estelle Riché is senior scientist in the Application group of the Lab Water business field of Merck Millipore, in St Quentin en Yvelines, France. Prior to joining Merck Millipore eight years ago, she was a professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (USA) for four years. Her research focus was on targeted drug delivery, and she studied the relationship between gum disease and systemic conditions such as heart disease, preeclampsia and premature birth. She holds an engineering degree in chemistry from ESCOM (France), and a PhD degree from the University of North Carolina (USA).
