Posted on:

In this webinar, experts Georg Debus and Nikolay Ivanov of Lumex Instruments discuss the advantages of atomic absorption spectroscopy with Zeeman background correction (ZAAS) for the analysis of mercury in complex samples.

Live Air Date: Thursday, June 9, 2016

Determination of mercury in complex samples presents specific challenges for laboratory analysis. This especially applies to soil, crude oil, wastewater, ores, foodstuffs, and biological samples. As a rule, these samples represent complex mixtures of various organic and inorganic compounds. Conventional AA and AF analysis techniques require lengthy stages of sample preparation and mercury accumulation on a sorbent. This significantly increases analysis time, labor cost, and error probability.

In this webinar, Lumex Instruments’ experts Georg Debus and Nikolay Ivanov discuss the advantages of atomic absorption spectroscopy with Zeeman background correction (ZAAS) for the analysis of mercury in a variety of samples. The ZAAS technique allows fast and selective direct mercury determination in any complex liquid or solid by means of pyrolysis/burning with real time detection. This method requires no sample preparation or mercury accumulation while an advanced thermal scanning option can provide additional information about forms of mercury and matrix.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Examples of determination of mercury in soil, crude oil, naphtha, wastewater, foodstuffs, coal, sorbent traps, cosmetics, and more
  • Improved selectivity and sensitivity analysis using ZAAS
  • Compliance with ASTM, ISO, and US EPA standards
  • Determination of mercury species in samples
