SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 9, 2013 – Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced it will host two life science workshops in California this month. The first, ‘Omics Approaches in Understanding Disease, will be held in San Diego on Wednesday, Dec. 11. The San Francisco Bay Area workshop, Implementing Multi-Omics Approaches—From Discovery to Clinical Research, will be held Dec. 12. Guests will hear presentations from leading scientists using Agilent’s latest integrated biology technologies to gain new insights into drug development and disease research.
“These exciting events are designed for life scientists and clinicians involved in translational research and others interested in learning more about the power of pathway-guided multi-omics approaches to understanding the biological mechanisms of diseases,” said Leo Bonilla, Agilent’s director of Integrated Biology.
At both workshops, Dr. Robert Gerszten, director of Clinical and Translational Research at Massachusetts General Hospital Institute for Heart, Vascular and Stroke Care, and professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, will discuss how his team is applying multi-omics technologies to the study of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
Antoni Wandycz, Agilent’s director of Bioinformatics Solutions, will also present at both events. He will demonstrate how the company’s powerful GeneSpring GX statistical software tools enable rapid visualization and analysis of transcriptomics, genomics, proteomics and metabolomics data.
At the Dec. 11 workshop in San Diego, Dr. Gary Siuzdak, professor of Chemistry, Molecular and Computational Biology and senior director of Scripps Center for Metabolomics and Mass Spectrometry, will review a unique, metabolomics-based biochemical approach to understanding disease pathogenesis.
At the Dec. 12 workshop in the San Francisco Bay Area, Dr. Carlito Lebrilla, professor at UC Davis School of Medicine, will discuss how his team is developing mass-spectrometry-based tools for cancer and nutrition research.
Also at the Dec. 12 workshop, Dr. Roger Linington, associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry at UC Santa Cruz, will present his latest multi-omics research on infectious diseases, such as malaria and tuberculosis. Dr. Linington’s work focuses on natural marine products as a source of inspiration and innovation in biomedical science and drug discovery.
The Dec. 11 event will be held at Sanford Auditorium at the Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine in La Jolla. The Dec. 12 event will be held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Foster City. Customers, students and all interested guests are invited to attend both workshops and luncheons.
