Laboratories working with biohazards must adhere to biosafety measures to protect personnel from exposure. Biological safety cabinets (BSCs) are the primary means for containment, designed to protect the operator and environment from pathogens. There are different classes of cabinets to choose from, ranging from Class I (basic protection) to Class III (most lethal pathogens). In addition to selecting the appropriate BSC for the application, it is important to understand the different techniques, practices, and equipment associated with each biosafety level, and to develop an effective exposure control plan.

In this eBook:

  • Questions to ask when buying a biological safety cabinet
  • Working with Biohazards
  • The Right Biological Safety Cabinet for Your Job
