Cenevo is advancing its vision of agentic laboratories with the launch of two new AI agents designed to help scientists and lab teams operate more efficiently without sacrificing compliance or oversight.

Announced February 10, 2026, the new AI Protocol Conversion agent and AI Automation agent focus on two persistent pain points in lab operations: structuring institutional knowledge and turning that knowledge into action.

“Our AI initiatives are designed to eliminate manual work at the two biggest friction points in laboratory operations: getting knowledge into the system and turning that knowledge into action,” says Cenevo CEO Keith Hale. “We want to give scientists the power to use AI to autonomously solve complex, multi-step workflows, allowing them to focus on the more impactful aspects of their activities.”

Turning Legacy Protocols into Structured, Compliant Assets

The AI Protocol Conversion agent is designed to help labs modernize long-standing documentation. It automatically converts legacy, paper-based or static protocols into structured, reusable, and compliant digital workflows.

Mapped directly into Labguru’s native elements—such as steps and forms—the converted protocols preserve original intent while eliminating time-consuming manual reformatting.

Key capabilities of the AI Protocol Conversion agent include:

  • Automatic transformation of static protocols into structured formats
  • Preservation of existing protocol logic and intent
  • Full compliance-ready documentation within Labguru
  • Reduced manual data entry and copy-paste errors

For lab managers overseeing standardization and knowledge retention, this capability can significantly reduce onboarding time and improve protocol consistency across teams.

Enabling Automation Without Programming Expertise

The AI Automation agent allows scientists to create automation by simply describing what they want to achieve—no coding required. The agent generates the underlying workflow logic automatically, while maintaining human-in-the-loop approvals and full audit trails.

According to Cenevo, the AI Automation agent can reduce implementation time and costs by 30–50%, making advanced automation more accessible to labs of varying sizes and technical maturity.

The agent supports:

  • Event-driven workflows triggered by experiment status, QC thresholds, or sample changes
  • Integration with Labguru data and external systems
  • Fully visible and editable workflows for transparency
  • Compliance with FDA 21 CFR Part 11 and GxP requirements

For lab managers responsible for regulatory compliance, the emphasis on visibility and auditability may be particularly appealing.

Building a Continuous Loop from Data to Action

Together, the AI Protocol Conversion and AI Automation agents create a closed-loop system that moves labs from structured knowledge to proactive execution. Protocols are digitized and structured, then directly transformed into automated, compliant workflows.

“With the addition of these new AI agents, and many more to come, scientists’ time will be freed to delve deeper into their research,” said Jonathan Gross, Cenevo Chief Product Officer. “Generating scientific results requires physical analyses by multiple instruments. That makes AI adoption more challenging than in data-only industries. That’s why we’re building on our existing foundation of integration and connectivity to help labs to accelerate their adoption of gen AI and agentic AI.”

Cenevo is demonstrating its agentic AI capabilities at booth #1829 during SLAS Boston, taking place February 9–11.
