OHAUS Corporation has announced the acquisition of the Genie laboratory equipment portfolio from Scientific Industries, marking a significant expansion of its capabilities in sample preparation and processing.

The move reflects OHAUS’s continued focus on delivering integrated solutions for modern laboratories, particularly those seeking streamlined workflows and reliable instrumentation.

Strengthening Sample Preparation and Workflow Integration

The addition of Genie products brings a well-established suite of tools into the OHAUS ecosystem, including vortex mixers, bead homogenizers, cell disruptors, rotators, rockers, and incubators.

The expanded portfolio includes:

  • Vortex Genie: High-performance vortex mixers known for reliability and versatility
  • Bead Genie: Compact homogenizers compatible with a variety of tube sizes and bead types
  • Cell Disruptor Genie: Dual-motion technology designed for efficient and cost-effective cell disruption
  • Multi-Mode Rotator Genie: Flexible rotators and rockers with multi-motion capabilities
  • Multi-Function Incubator Genie: Temperature-controlled systems combining shaking, rocking, and stirring

With a legacy spanning more than 50 years, Vortex-Genie products remain widely recognized in life science laboratories and are often considered a benchmark in vortex mixing.

What This Means for Lab Managers

For lab managers, the integration of Genie products into the OHAUS portfolio offers several operational advantages:

  • Expanded workflow coverage from sample preparation through measurement
  • Access to proven, durable instruments with long service life
  • Versatility across applications including pharma, biotech, diagnostics, and food labs
  • Streamlined procurement and global support through OHAUS distribution networks

“Genie products have earned decades of trust in research and pharmaceutical environments,” said Jean-Yves Chever, OHAUS Corporation President. “This acquisition exemplifies OHAUS’s dedication to innovation and expanding its product offerings to better meet our customers’ needs worldwide.”

Expanding a Comprehensive Lab Equipment Ecosystem

The acquisition also enhances cross-functional compatibility with OHAUS’s existing equipment portfolio, enabling more cohesive lab setups. This includes integration with:

  • Laboratory balances
  • Centrifuges (general purpose and IVD)
  • Shakers and incubating systems
  • Hotplates and stirrers
  • Dry block heaters
  • Water analysis instruments

By incorporating Genie’s established distributor network, OHAUS further extends its global reach while offering laboratories a more unified and scalable equipment solution.

Overall, the acquisition positions OHAUS to better support labs seeking efficiency, consistency, and end-to-end workflow integration.
