Fast Detection Speeds for UHPLC

The LCMS-8030 Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer from Shimadzu Scientific Instruments features UFsweeper® technology, which accelerates ions out of the collision cell by forming a pseudo-potential surface. This results in high-efficiency collision-induced dissociation (CID) and ultra-fast ion transport for higher sensitivity. UFsweeper also enables the system to deliver fast MRM acquisition times.

With a high-speed scanning rate of 15,000 u/sec, the LCMS-8030 can provide full spectrum scans within a series of MRM measurements, providing confirmation of target compounds with information-rich ion spectra.

“All of this means that you can get more data points per peak than ever before from a triple quad,” said Robert Classon, LCMS Business Development Manager, Shimadzu. “Even HPLC peaks that are less than one second wide can be accurately quantitated, so you run samples faster and boost productivity and throughput.”

When paired with the Nexera UHPLC, the LCMS-8030 can provide accurate detection of peaks only one-second wide. In addition, a polarity switching time of 15 msec enables ultra-fast triple quadrupole measurement.

Detect and Suppress Fire Directly at the Source

The FIRETRACE® stand-alone fire detection and suppression system from Firetrace International provides round-the-clock fire protection for various types of fume hoods and enclosures.

In traditional fume hood in-cabinet sprinkler detection and dispersal systems, the design of the airflow can result in heat and flames not reaching the top-mounted detection device in time to prevent severe damage or destruction.

FIRETRACE overcomes this issue with Firetrace Detection Tubing, a leak-resistant polymer tubing linked to an extinguishing agent cylinder. This proprietary tubing is a linear pneumatic heat and flame detector that ruptures anywhere along its length immediately upon fire detection, and automatically releases the suppression agent. In addition, detection is positioned in the path that heat and flames will follow—behind the baffles and across the duct openings.

“Sprinklers will go off until the fire department arrives, causing damage,” said Scott Starr, Director of Marketing for Firetrace International. “[FIRETRACE] can stop the fire where it starts, to prevent potential damage.”

Suppressant options include CO2 AFFF foam, dry powder and the latest clean agents, such as 3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Suppression Fluid and DuPont™ FM-200®.

FIRETRACE can also be used to protect hazardous material storage cabinets. The Firetrace Detection Tubing is flexible so it can be routed throughout the cabinet, ensuring detection is at the point of a potential fire.

ID Tech Bio’s new Ultra-D Room Fogger offers a practical room cleaning technique, suitable for all types of rooms and contents, including beds, chairs, ventilators, IV pumps and computers. Once an ID badge is swiped, a 15-minute “dry-misting” process will begin, disinfecting the entire room, leaving all surfaces undamaged.

Featuring Magnetic Resolution Activation (MRA™) technology, the unit releases an activated dry mist Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) fog that kills all potentially harmful microorganisms, including MRSA, VRE, Acinetobacter and C-Diff spores to >6 log. ROS target only surface microorganisms, killing them on contact and then transforming them into H2O and O2 and evaporating. No residue is left behind and no damage is done, so even sensitive electronics can be disinfected.

The disinfectant includes a food-grade, 5- to 7-percent hydrogen peroxide concentration. “Hydrogen peroxide is the second most effective killing mechanism behind fluorene, which is highly toxic,” said John Barton, President, ID Tech Bio. “[Hydrogen peroxide] provides a very environmentally friendly disinfection, and kills harmful bacteria, spores and viruses.”

The compact unit sits on wheels so that it can be moved from room to room, and operates silently. If re-entry into the room is required immediately after the disinfection process, air scrubbing is required.
