Absorbance and Fluorescence Quantification

An application guide to sample QC

Fluorescence and UV-Vis absorbance are complementary measurement techniques for the quantification and quality control of samples. Each method has advantages depending on the application and sample being quantified.

UV-Vis absorbance measures the amount of light absorbed by a sample at a specific wavelength, making it a quick and easy way to accurately quantify a wide range of samples. When using fluorescence assays, fluorophores bind to the sample of interest and are excited with a specific wavelength of light. This increases the specificity and sensitivity of measurements.
