Lab Manager and My Green Lab® have announced Agilent Technologies as the inaugural winner of the Sustainable Lab Product Innovation Award, recognizing progress toward measurable, transparent sustainability in laboratory product design and manufacturing.

The new award, jointly presented by Lab Manager and My Green Lab, celebrates how scientific innovation and environmental responsibility can align to create meaningful, verified change. The program honors manufacturers that demonstrate third-party-audited sustainability performance through the My Green Lab ACT® Ecolabel program—setting a global benchmark for accountability and measurable impact.

Agilent earned the distinction for the 1290 Infinity III LC System, a high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) platform that delivers high performance, analytical precision,  smart tools to reduce errors and increase control, and extended lifespan, all while reducing its environmental footprint. Evaluated through the ACT Ecolabel program, the system was assessed across its full life cycle—energy and water use, packaging, product longevity, and end-of-life management—and stood out for its energy-efficient operation, modular design, and ISO-aligned carbon accounting suitable for Scope 3 emissions reporting.

Elevating sustainability through leadership decisions

For laboratories, sustainability extends beyond waste, water,  and energy management. It also includes decisions about which suppliers and products to support. Lab Manager partnered with My Green Lab on this award to underscore that lab managers hold a powerful influence over their organization’s sustainability priorities. Choosing manufacturers that commit to transparency and third-party verification helps drive industry-wide improvement and signals to teams and executives alike that environmental responsibility is integral to scientific excellence.

“Lab managers and leaders have the power to support vendors that produce products contributing to sustainability. The decisions they make to purchase products and materials that support greener options drive manufacturers to be accountable and to demonstrate that their products and processes support these goals,” emphasizes Scott Hanton, editorial director at Lab Manager.

Agilent’s broader commitment to sustainable science

Agilent’s sustainability leadership extends beyond a single product. The company has committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and broadcast their desire to help customers achieve their environmental goals. They also offer an instrument trade-in program, where used instruments are reused or recycled to give the products a second life, among a variety of other initiatives.

Inspiring verified progress across science

The Sustainable Lab Product Innovation Award is part of a growing partnership between My Green Lab and Lab Manager aimed at inspiring labs and manufacturers to transform intent into measurable action. The collaboration builds a bridge between how products are made and how laboratories operate, showing that verified sustainability, from the benchtop to the boardroom, creates stronger, more resilient organizations.

“We have heard from the Lab Manager audience of lab leaders that they want to operate their labs in a more sustainable way. They are interested in supporting manufacturers that provide them with high-performing products that support lab sustainability. Our hope is that this award inspires labs to act on these intentions and vendors to provide sustainable choices that perform well in the labs,” says Hanton.
