Biotech Fluidics has announced the DEGASi® Integration HFIP, a high-performance online degassing system engineered to handle some of the most challenging solvents used in modern chromatography workflows.

Designed with lab managers in mind, the system addresses persistent issues associated with degassing highly volatile and aggressive solvents, including Hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) and silanes, while remaining compatible with standard solvents used in GPC/SEC and HPLC.

Addressing the Challenges of HFIP in Chromatography

HFIP is widely used for demanding liquid chromatography separations, particularly for polar polymers and peptides that are not soluble in conventional organic solvents. However, its chemical properties create operational hurdles.

“HFIP is recommended for challenging liquid chromatography separations of polar polymers and peptides that are not soluble in common organic solvents.”

Due to its highly polar, strongly acidic, and volatile nature, HFIP can be difficult to degas using traditional systems. This often results in baseline noise, reduced sensitivity, and inconsistent analytical performance.

The DEGASi® HFIP system is specifically designed to overcome these limitations, enabling stable and efficient degassing even under demanding conditions.

Designed for Performance, Stability, and Ease of Use

Available in two configurations for analytical and semi-preparative applications, the system supports flow rates up to 3 mL/min and 6 mL/min, respectively. Its integration capability provides an output signal corresponding to internal vacuum levels, allowing continuous monitoring through instrument software.

Key benefits for lab managers include:

  • Compatibility with aggressive and volatile solvents, including HFIP and silanes
  • Stable, low-noise performance for high-precision chromatography systems
  • Real-time vacuum monitoring via integration output (5 mV/mmHg)
  • Flexible configurations for analytical and semi-preparative workflows
  • Easy solvent exchange due to low swept volume and efficient channel design

The system also features a patented closed-loop vacuum control, ensuring consistent degassing performance while minimizing system noise—an important consideration for labs prioritizing reproducibility and data quality.

Supporting Reliable, Long-Term Lab Operations

For laboratories managing complex analytical workflows, reliability and ease of maintenance are critical. The DEGASi® HFIP is designed to deliver both, with a robust architecture that supports long-term use and minimal disruption.

By combining compatibility with difficult solvents, integration-ready monitoring, and stable performance, the DEGASi® HFIP provides a practical solution for labs seeking to optimize chromatography workflows without compromising on reliability.
