The characterization of advanced materials and complex formulations presents unique analytical challenges, which are often difficult to address using traditional instrumentational approaches. Evolved gas analysis (EGA) is rapidly emerging as a powerful technique for in-depth material characterization by coupling or “hyphenating” two or more types of analytical instruments to qualitatively and quantitatively study material chemistry and the nature of gases evolved during decomposition. In this webinar, we will discuss the basics of hyphenation designs achievable by coupling a Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA) to a FTIR, MS, GC/MS, or a combination of FTIR and GC/MS. We will also consider several applications of such hyphenated systems in industrial, life sciences, and petrochemical segments, with particular emphasis on elucidating composition and properties of polymer-based materials.
