Announced March 5, 2026, the platform represents what the company describes as the next phase of its laboratory informatics strategy, embedding advanced AI and automation directly into the LabVantage LIMS environment.

According to LabVantage, the goal is to help laboratories operate more efficiently while improving data accuracy and gaining deeper operational insights.

“LabVantage Cortex is more than just an upgrade; it is a fundamental reimagining of how laboratories interact with their data and processes,” said Gary Stimson, principal architect and head of AI technologies at LabVantage Solutions. “LabVantage Cortex positions our customers at the forefront of laboratory innovation, enabling autonomous workflows, predictive quality control, and seamless regulatory compliance.”

A Platform Designed for AI-Enabled Laboratory Operations

LabVantage Cortex combines a cloud-native architecture with AI-driven automation designed to work within the existing LIMS framework. The platform uses autonomous AI agents capable of coordinating laboratory processes and workflows directly inside the system.

This design allows laboratories to adopt new AI capabilities without undergoing disruptive system overhauls.

The platform is built as a multi-tenant, cloud-native Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) environment, enabling labs to scale capabilities while maintaining system stability.

For laboratories already using LabVantage LIMS, the company says the platform provides a lower-risk path to adopting advanced AI tools.

The system also integrates with emerging technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT) devices and digital twin models to support real-time monitoring and predictive laboratory management.

Key Capabilities Introduced with LabVantage Cortex

LabVantage Cortex introduces several AI-enabled capabilities aimed at addressing common operational challenges in laboratory environments.

Key features include:

  • Worksheet assistance to help with data entry and analysis
  • Sample management assistance to streamline repetitive processes
  • Stability study assistance to monitor product trends and develop protocols
  • Process simplification to free up time for laboratory personnel
  • Automated compliance monitoring aligned with FDA, EMA, and ISO standards

These capabilities are intended to reduce manual work, improve workflow efficiency, and minimize the risk of errors across laboratory processes.

Supporting the Shift Toward Autonomous Labs

Demand for AI-enabled laboratory systems is growing across industries such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, food and beverage, oil and gas, and forensics. LabVantage notes that recent survey data indicates more than 75% of laboratories plan to implement AI or machine learning technologies within the next two years.

The company says LabVantage Cortex is designed to support this shift by enabling more adaptive and intelligent lab environments.

Mikael Hagstroem, chief executive officer of LabVantage Solutions, said the platform reflects the company’s long-term vision for increasingly autonomous laboratory ecosystems.

“LabVantage is committed to steadily improving LabVantage Cortex with semantic capabilities, more agentic AI features and seamless integration with new technologies. Our aim is to help customers speed up discovery and reach the market faster while supporting scientific advancement and operational efficiency.”

LabVantage will be showcasing the platform at PittCon 2026, taking place March 7–11 in San Antonio, Texas.
