Gestalt Robotics GmbH has developed LaboratorySYS, a new flexible and adaptive platform for laboratory automation. The system is equipped with various AI skills, can be operated intuitively and simplifies many standard laboratory processes such as handling, pipetting, and inspection.

The lack of qualified personnel in laboratories is already a major challenge today. In addition, repetitive, non-value-adding processes make up a large proportion of laboratory work. The demand for laboratory automation has therefore risen dramatically in recent years. However, traditional automation approaches quickly reach their limits due to a wide variety of sample containers, differences in the viscosity of liquids, and varying particle sizes of powders.

Handling of different object classes in all shapes, colors, and materials

LaboratorySYS is a platform that is equipped with various AI skills and can safely handle a wide range of containers from glass tubes and vials to flasks and vessels without static programming. It can also open, close, and process the objects, e.g., in the form of printing, filling, and weighing.

Using optical detection and visual and tactile AI skills, varying objects in unstructured positions can be identified and processed, precision steps can be realized, and process results can be validated and digitally documented. Complex workflows can also be created and configured easily and intuitively. The control software also handles collision-free path planning and the synchronization of multiple robot arms. Thanks to a laboratory-optimized platform, users are empowered to automate a wide range of processes with minimal effort.

Complete solution for different places of operations

LaboratorySYS is suitable for various places of operations, such as in medical research or hospital laboratories, in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, or in pharmacy laboratories. LaboratorySYS is offered as an integrated system solution, including hardware, transport, installation, and commissioning.

Thomas Staufenbiel, CEO of Gestalt Robotics: “LaboratorySYS simplifies many standard processes (handling, pipetting, inspection) in the laboratory, supporting employees in their repetitive tasks and saving time. We are proud of the development of this new technology, which is already making the laboratory of the future possible today."
