Report: Worker compensation rises, but slowly

A report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics found that total compensation costs for civilian workers increased 0.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2006, down from 1.0 percent the previous quarter.

Wages and salaries in particular rose 0.8 percent in the fourth quarter, compared to 0.9 percent the previous quarter.

Benefit costs were unchanged from the third quarter of 2006.
