The Society for Biomolecular Sciences (SBS) announced April 30 the top ten poster winners of the SBS 2010 Conference and Exhibition. Posters were on display in the exhibit hall at the conference, which took place at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona, April 11 – 15.

Over 300 posters were submitted this year, representing 13 different topics, which were covered by the sessions of the annual conference. A panel of 31 reviewers participated in the on-site selection of the awardees. The posters were scored for the level of innovation, clarity and organization of the display, experimental data quality, importance of the conclusion and impact on drug discovery.

“It was satisfying to have so many posters with high scores at the last round of finalists. The top 10 posters showcase the high scientific quality and creativity of our society members,” said session co-chair Julio Martin.

The SBS 2010 poster winners are:

  • Scott Gridley, Blue Sky BioProducts - “Mimicking Membrane-associated Kinase Activity in an in vitro Enzymatic Assay for HTS: Template-Directed Assembly of Lyn kinase using TDA 2.0™”
  • Markus Schwab, Evolva SA – “Genetic Chemistry Platform Applied to Identification of Anti-viral Compounds”
  • Blake Anson, Cellular Dynamics International – “Large scale production and characterization of human induced pluripotent stem cell derived cardiomyocytes for use in assessing cardiotoxicity”
  • Anesh Sitaram, AstraZeneca R & D Charnwood - Automation of Complex Cell models - Investigating Modulators of Angiogenesis In Vitro”
  • Linda Trinkle, IntelliCyt Corporation – “HyperCyt® PRO: An Advanced Platform for Collecting, Managing and Sharing Data from Multiplate Flow Cytometry Screening”
  • Lisa Saville, Cephalon, Inc. –“Use of Multiplexing in the Evaluation of Prokineticin Receptor Ligands”
  • Qing Xiang, Hoffman – La Roche – “Biochemical Characterization of a Small Molecule Glycogen Synthase Activator”
  • Tracy Worzella, BellBrook Labs – “A microconduit array plate designed for high content leukocyte chemotaxis assays in the presence of a stable gradient”
  • Vivek Abraham, Abbott Laboratories – “Development of a 10-Parameter High Content Screening Assay Panel for Elucidation of Mechanism of Action of Cytotoxic Compounds for Drug Discovery
  • Jutta Fritz, KINAXO Biotechnologies, “Mode of Action Analysis of Sorafenib by Integrating Chemical Proteomics and Phosphoproteomics”

“We’re grateful to all the poster authors for their contributions, as well as the individuals who helped to review and select the awardees, and encourage authors to continue submitting posters for future SBS conferences,” said session co-chair Julie Li.
