Communications technology has made rapid changes in the way data is accessed and used.

The modern user prefers to access data on the go—anytime, anywhere she wants. Realizing this, Sigma-Aldrich has announced the launch of its new mobile device website, designed specifically for access by smartphones and other mobile devices.

With the help of this mobile device website, users can access complete product properties and descriptions for more than 130,000 products, along with some 90,000 technical documents and 200,000 chemical structures and images. Also, scientists can access Certificates of Analysis, Specification Sheets and other details to ensure quality and safety.

"The mobile device website is a dynamic tool designed to facilitate scientific collaboration, information sharing and networking within the research community,” said Karen Miller, senior vice president, Strategy and Corporate Development. “As innovation in web access for scientific products, services and technologies continues to trend upward, our platforms must support the market with convenient, quick access through this medium, which is second nature to many of our customers.”

This new mobile device site also provides price and availability information for all of the Company’s products. This information comes with a convenient e-mail option for collaboration and ordering through the desktop site. Customers can visit www.sigma-aldrich.com/mobile to access the new Sigma-Aldrich mobile device website. They have to fill in a few details such as product number, product name and CAS number—and then they are ready to go.

Recently, the company launched a life science-focused application for the social media site Facebook. Developed and marketed by Sigma Life Science, the ‘What’s Your Favorite Gene?’ application is the first and currently only application of its kind available on Facebook, and provides a platform that lets scientists and researchers network with each other and facilitate discussions based on their favorite genes.
