The 2025 My Green Lab (MGL) Freezer Challenge has begun! Join countless labs worldwide as they compete to improve their cold storage practices. In the past eight years the freezer challenge has helped labs all over the world save a total of 76.5 million kWh of energy, with participants achieving over 30 million kWh in energy savings in 2024 alone. Sign up today and compete to lower your lab’s carbon footprint while saving money with the help of MGL.

Get involved in the Freezer Challenge

The first step to participating in the free, annual competition is to sign up with MGL. Once that’s done you will be given access to the resources you need to explore strategies and review the best practices to optimize your cold storage. After settling on a plan of action the next step is to coordinate with your colleagues and labmates to put your plan into action. MGL will provide a scoresheet for you to use to monitor your impact.

What's new this year?

MGL has made some exciting updates to the freezer challenge this year, including more a user-friendly platform and more resources. They’ve also added online score tracking and better access to score and award details after registering.
