PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT

Tangential Flow Filtration System
Ideal for R&D scale microfiltration and ultrafiltration processing

The KrosFlo® Research IIi Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF) System from Spectrum Labs is ideal for processing and monitoring filtration volumes ranging from 2 mL to 10 L. Whether maintaining a validated separation or characterizing a process for scale-up, the system can be combined with Spectrum’s KrosFlo Automatic Back Pressure Valve to control transmembrane pressure (TMP) and monitor process conditions in a wide range of TFF applications.

A Digital Pressure Monitor which displays feed, retentate, permeate and transmembrane pressures (TMP) is integrated into the peristaltic pump. The monitor is controlled by an embedded microcontroller, and uses a RS232 signal to control the valve’s set point TMP or permeate pressure.

The Back Pressure Valve opens or closes by pinching on the outside of the tubing (no fluid contact) to maintain a preset pressure. This reduces the chance of membrane fouling, minimizes operational support, and provides a uniform seiving coefficient within the hollow fiber module.

Dave Serway, VP of Business Development, Spectrum Labs, says, “Tangential flow filtration utilizing ready-to-use hollow fiber modules is scale-able. With the KRIIi system, TFF can be used to characterize a process at the bench scale that can then be easily implemented into a client’s production environment.”

Included with the system is KFComm Data Collection Software, which interfaces with a computer to download data in real-time and graphically display the process conditions.

When used with Spectrum’s hollow fiber filters, the system provides faster separation or concentration of proteins, cells, viruses, nano-particles and other macromolecules.
