Introduction
Between 172 and 250 million people worldwide used illicit drugs at least once in 2007, with 18– 38 million estimated to be heavy drug users.Among the most widely abused controlled substances are the stimulants. Cocaine, the most potent stimulant derived from natural sources, was consumed by an estimated 15.6–20.8 million people worldwide in 2007, representing 0.4–0.5% of the world’s population aged 15–64.
