More than 60 scientists work in the Research and Development (R&D) laboratory at Thermo Fisher Scientific’s new Niche Diagnostics Center of Excellence in Fremont, CA. They create new, innovative technologies and develop diagnostic products for drugs of abuse testing, therapeutic drug monitoring, QA controls and microparticles used in diagnostic and life science applications.Thermo Fisher ScientificFremont, Calif., – (October 27, 2014) – National, state and local representatives joined Thermo Fisher Scientific officials today to dedicate a new $85 million Niche Diagnostics Center of Excellence in Fremont, California.
United States Congressmen Mike Honda and Eric Swalwell, California Assemblyman Bob Wieckowski, California State Senator Ellen Corbett, Director of the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development Kish Rajan and Fremont Mayor Bill Harrison joined Thermo Fisher Scientific to officially open a new 350,000 square foot facility. The facility develops and manufactures innovative technologies for diagnostic testing and quality controls that are used in healthcare and other markets.

The facility is now home to more than 500 employees who develop and manufacture next-generation assays for therapeutic drug monitoring, drugs of abuse screening and other ready-to-use tests.

Thermo Fisher designed the Niche Diagnostics Center of Excellence with a focus on energy efficiency, sustainability and community stewardship. Building features include low-flow fixtures facility-wide, charging stations for electric vehicles and a highly efficient HVAC system. Across the Bay Area, Thermo Fisher employees currently take part in community service activities, already logging more than 900 hours so far in 2014.
