New questions about geology, oceanography and seafloor ecosystems are being raised because of research by a Mississippi State University geologist.

Citing concern about suspected threats to the health of humans and wildlife, the European Union’s Marie Curie European Industrial Doctorate program has awarded a €1.2 million research grant to four early-stage researchers from Asia, Australia and Europe to study the environmental effects of one of the most common types of flame retardants.

The University of Minnesota announced Aug. 18 it has launched a first-of-its kind seed-investment program, the Discovery Capital Investment Program, to accelerate the transfer of university technology to the market by providing early-stage funding to startup companies based on university-discovered technology and innovation.
