Lab management is a very important role, as lab managers deliver a wide range of responsibilities to ensure that the lab operates smoothly. Most lab managers rise out of the technical staff and receive little or no training on the leadership and management skills required to be successful in the new role. This presentation will provide an overview of some of the more important leadership and management skills that lab managers need to be successful. It won’t cover everything, but will touch on topics that are especially needed, and often learned only through experience. Since people are the most important resource for any lab, many of the key lab management skills revolve around people leadership and performance management.
