The Pell Laboratory for Advanced Biological Studies at Penn State University has received an Honor Award from the New England chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The Pell Lab was one of only three honor awards selected from more than 400 submissions. This is the highest award given to a project designed by New England architects.

A team of researchers at Chalmers University of Technology has found that kidney cancer cells have a quite different metabolism than other types of malignancies. The findings pave the way for new methods of diagnosing kidney cancer at an early stage, a feat that had eluded researchers earlier, and thereby fresh approaches to treatment.

Everyone from the Boise, Idaho area is familiar with the scenic Boise River next to the Boise State University campus, but only a few insiders know about a hidden stream located downtown at the intersection of Broadway and Front streets. The artificial stream, called a “flume,” can be found on the ground floor of the Idaho Water Center and is the site of a collaborative research initiative by scientists from Boise State and the University of Idaho (UI). The project is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
