The global gas chromatography market is a mature market, and is dominated by aftermarket and accessories. Despite this, the global market maintained positive momentum in recent years. However, the market slumped when the global economy plunged into recession in 2008 and 2009, as most of the companies in various end-use sectors deferred their plans to replace aging instruments or to upgrade to advanced systems. Sales of both new systems as well as columns began to decline in late 2008. However, with recovering global economy, the market is expected to return to its positive growth path in 2010, and continue to gather momentum in the ensuing years, albeit at a slower rate.
