The Lab Design Excellence Awards have been established by Lab Manager to honor excellence in research laboratory design, planning, and construction. This prestigious new program has been developed to recognize and celebrate the best new projects within the lab design community. These awards recognize everyone who touches the lab design process—from the architect and lab planner to the engineer and equipment and furniture manufacturers.
Following the completion of the submission and judging processes, Lab Manager is now proud to announce the winners of its first annual competition:
Award for Excellence in Innovation: the Lilly Innovation Development Center. Submitted by Flad Architects.
Award for Excellence in Sustainability: Arizona State University, Biodesign Institute C. Submitted by ZGF.
Award for Excellence in Safety: Butte College Welding & Manufacturing Building. Submitted by JK Architecture Engineering.
Lab Manager is also pleased to recognize two additional honorees as part of the 2020 Lab Design Excellence Awards competition:
Honorable Mention for Innovation: Engineering Research Center, Brown University. Submitted by KieranTimberlake.
Honorable Mention for Sustainability: Aerospace & Engineering Sciences Building, Metropolitan State University of Denver. Submitted by Anderson Mason Dale Architects.
The Lab Design Excellence Awards program was launched in 2019. The competition invited industry professionals to put their recent lab projects into words, for a chance to enter into an elite community within the lab design world. Entrants were asked to demonstrate what makes their facilities unique and cutting-edge, and how they can serve as models for the lab design/build community. A panel of industry leaders—consisting of laboratory architects, engineers, construction professionals, and editorial staff from Lab Manager—analyzed each entry for its approach to lab design, specifically focusing on the categories of Innovation, Sustainability, and Safety. Projects entered in the Lab Design Excellence Awards represented a wide range of laboratory types, such as research labs, academic facilities, forensic and crime labs, healthcare buildings, government facilities, industry labs, and more.
The project teams will be honored during Digital Lab Design Summit, May 11-13. The three winning teams will accept their awards and offer in-depth presentations about their groundbreaking projects, which will be broadcast via live webinars to the Lab Manager audience.
