Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when installing columns. For gas chromatography columns in particular, remember that glass or fused capillary columns are fragile: handle them with care and wear safety glasses to protect eyes from flying particles while handling, cutting, or installing capillary columns. For HPLC columns, the working pressure of the column should never exceed that recommended by the manufacturer. In general, you’ll always want to allow cooling time before changing columns.
