New Jack Henion Award for Scientific Excellence in Mass Spectrometry Announced

May 17, 2012 – Ithaca, NY – Advion, Inc., a leading life sciences systems and consumables developer, announces a new award for college and university students who demonstrate a desire to test the limits of conventional thinking and present novel applications in mass spectrometry – the Jack Henion Award for Scientific Innovation in Mass Spectrometry. Dr. Henion, co-founder of Advion Inc., is chief scientific officer and chairman of the board of Advion as well as professor emeritus of Cornell University and is a recognized leader in the field of mass spectrometry. As the inventor of ion spray, Dr. Henion, understands and values the contributions made by students for academia and industry.

This award is the first of its kind offered by Advion. Known for product offerings that improve established workflows, Advion seeks to recognize novel applications of their technology by students to encourage multi-disciplinary and ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking.

Conflict Management and Resolution Course

Applications will be accepted starting on May 20th at Advion’s ASMS Users Meeting through September 30th. Applicants can be technicians, undergraduates, Ph.D. candidates or post docs, but not professor. Work must include innovative or novel use of Advion’s TriVersa NanoMate or Chip-Mate nano-ES ion source. Only one application per person will be accepted, and cannot be completed in conjunction with an Advion employee. Interested parties can email Advion for an application at info@advion.com.

A committee of scientists within Advion that includes Dr. Henion, will select a recipient that best fulfills the requirements of the award process as detailed on the application. The prize will be announced and awarded by October 15, 2012.
