Pittcon Announces 2013 Pittsburgh Conference Memorial National College Grant Awardees

The Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy, a Pennsylvania non-profit corporation, is proud to announce its 2013 Pittsburgh Conference Memorial National College Grant (PCMNCG) recipients. The maximum funding available this year for each grant is $10,000 and is awarded to the science departments of colleges with less than 5,000 full-time students for the purchase of scientific equipment, audio-visual or other teaching aids, and/or library materials for use in the teaching of science at the undergraduate level.

Approximately 49 proposals were evaluated by the committee which consists of members of the two societies that sponsor Pittcon, the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP) and the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh (SSP). Since 1974, PCMNCG has awarded more than 300 grants to over 220 institutions.

Examples of equipment and instruments funded in previous years include Vernier Lab Pro systems, Vernier SpectroVis Plus spectrometers, CEM Discover SP /Explorer-12 Hybrid microwave system, and specifically requested sensors and accessories.

Proceeds from Pittcon are used by the SACP and the SSP to promote science education at all levels. The Pittsburgh Conference Memorial National College Grants (PCMNCG) program is one aspect of the efforts of the Pittcon volunteer committee, staff, and sponsoring societies to support science education.
