The Invitrogen™ RiboMinus™ Bacteria 2.0 Transcriptome Isolation Kit, offered by Thermo Fisher Scientific, is a new and improved automation-ready kit for depletion of ribosomal RNA from bacteria. Using the kit, researchers can improve RNA-sequencing results with efficient bacterial transcriptome enrichment with probe-based depletion of ribosomal RNA from bacterial total RNA enabling sequencing more RNA.

Clark Bloomer, project manager at Genomics Core, researching microbiomes, said: “We were very encouraged to confirm that 95 percent of NGS reads were non-rRNA transcripts when trailing the RiboMinus Bacteria 2.0 Transcriptome Isolation Kit for rRNA depletion of E. coli when trialing the new product.”

Invitrogen RiboMinus™ products use a novel magnetic bead–based purification technology to enrich the RNA transcript spectrum by selective depletion of rRNA transcripts from total RNA. The RiboMinus™ Bacteria 2.0 Transcriptome Isolation Kit now includes 5S targets and over 100 probe designs designed to yield improved rRNA depletion and achieve consistent data.

“We are committed to always improving and adding value to our kits,” said Jeff Franz, director of Product Management of the sample preparation business at Thermo Fisher Scientific. “The latest addition to the portfolio of Invitrogen™ RiboMinus™ isolation kits offer researchers and labs a solution that is designed to increase more targets, more consistency, and better chemistry to enrich the RNA transcript spectrum. The bacteria kit is designed to also work on KingFisher instruments which enable labs to spend less time prepping their samples and more time focusing on downstream analysis.”
