Purdue University has been selected as one of 13 affiliates to participate in the Project for Scholarly Integrity. The project is an initiative of the Council of Graduate Schools, which seeks to help graduate students become more aware of the wide variety of issues in the ethical and responsible conduct of research.

The project will address topics that include conflicts of interest, plagiarism, human subject research and laboratory management. As an affiliate, Purdue will have access to scholarly integrity models funded by the Council of Graduate Schools, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and Office of Research Integrity.

Mark Smith, dean of the Purdue Graduate School, said it has developed its own responsible conduct of research program with help from the office of the vice president for research in connection with the project.

"The purpose of this program is to inculcate, promote and sustain an environment of research integrity in all graduate students, staff and faculty at Purdue," Smith said. "The graduate school recommends a multipronged approach to promote responsible conduct of research that includes attending workshops, online training/tutorial modules and meeting departmental or college expectations in responsible conduct of research."

Other affiliates are Duke University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Howard University, Marquette University, Northern Arizona University, Princeton University, Simmons College, University of California, San Diego, University of New Mexico, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, University of West Florida and Wake Forest University.
