Biologics

Problem: In recent years, cell biology has included more emphasis on the study of rapid movement inside live cells: its dynamics, mechanisms, electrochemical signaling and protein transport. To capture these events while avoiding image artifacts, frame rates must be high enough to accurately sample these cellular phenomena. Depending on the event, these rates can range from 20 to several thousand frames per second with exposure times well below 100ms.

Scientists at Thermo Fisher Scientific and BioAnalytix, Inc., of Cambridge, MA, are combining their expertise to develop advanced analytical profiling platforms and applications to characterize biologic and biosimilar drugs.

On May 9, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced that Rutgers University Cell & DNA Repository (RUCDR) Infinite Biologics, the world’s largest university-based biorepository, will be receiving up to $19 million in federal funding. This renewal contract, awarded to RUCDR by the Department of Health and Human Services over a five year period, will be used to maintain and expand their NIDA Center for Genetic Studies (NCGS).
