Lab Manager held its highly successful Lab Design Digital Summit on May 11-13, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 crisis and its associated travel restrictions and health concerns, the event transitioned from a live conference in Atlanta to a digital webinar series, so that attendees could still attend from the comfort and safety of their own homes.

The audience consisted of architects, engineers, planners, designers, equipment vendors, and laboratory management professionals, who attended this three-day series to learn about topics of interest related to lab design, engineering, and sustainability. Educational sessions on a variety of topics related to the design/build aspect of labs—including creating a modern academic facility, building successful partnerships between design/build teams and lab management, developing a flexible lab for unknown end users, and optimizing the lab for the 21st century, were available those who registered for this free, full-scale online event. Leading experts from the lab design/build community offered insight on the latest trends and technologies in lab planning and construction. Attendees were also able to earn AIA and HSW credits toward their license requirements.

This digital event also featured presentations from the winners of the Lab Design Excellence Awards, a prestigious new program developed by Lab Manager to recognize and celebrate the best new projects within the lab design community. The Lab Design Excellence Awards program celebrates everyone involved with the lab design process—from the architect and lab planner to the engineer to the equipment and furniture manufacturer. The three winning teams each provided an in-depth look at their groundbreaking lab facilities, and explained the strategies behind their respective buildings and the unique challenges they overcame to produce quality labs. Awards were presented for Excellence in Innovation, Safety, and Sustainability.

All of the educational sessions from the Lab Design Digital Summit are available for free download at labmanager.com/lab-design-digital-summit. Thank you to all the attendees, speakers, and sponsors who helped make this online conference a great success!
