New data collected by the National Science Foundation (NSF) have resulted in an upward revision in the previously published 2011 U.S. research and development (R&D) performance total, and further expansion of U.S. R&D performance is indicated for 2012. These new data put U.S. R&D expenditures at $428.2 billion in 2011, an increase of $20.5 billion over 2010. The preliminary estimate of the 2012 U.S. total for R&D is $452.6 billion.

Johns Hopkins University led U.S. universities in research spending for the 34th straight year in fiscal 2012, performing $2.106 billion in medical, science, and engineering R&D, the National Science Foundation says.

“The prudence exhibited by women directors in negotiating mergers and acquisitions has had a substantial positive effect on maintaining firm value,” says Kai Li of the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business.
