Freeze-drying, or lyophilization, is a long-established process in the food, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and diagnostic industries that involves the removal of water or another solvent from a frozen product by means of sublimation.
In 1998, the rotor in an ultracentrifuge spun out control, completely destroying the centrifuge, a nearby freezer, the control system for an incubator, and all the windows in the room.
