A bill to be heard today (Feb. 10) before the Wisconsin state Assembly's education committee would keep scientific research from the public eye if it passes.

In an effort to better meet customer needs for instrument design and development, Shimadzu Scientific Instruments (SSI) has opened its new Shimadzu Solution Center. The facility, operating out of SSI’s North American headquarters in Columbia, Md., will enhance collaboration with customers and enable the company to more quickly respond to customer needs for new scientific instruments, software platforms, and applications.

Mollusk researchers at Virginia Tech in the U.S. and at the Freshwater Fisheries Research Center in Wuxi, China, are collaborating to promote freshwater mussel conservation, develop more robust and productive pearl-producing Chinese mussels, and possibly introduce a U.S. mussel to China that has the potential to produce colored pearls.
