Fume Hoods

Labconco Corporation has combined its patented fully-featured Protector Hood design with Erlab’s GreenFumeHood (GFH) Technology to deliver a multi-use fume hood that requires no ducting. The Protector Echo delivers safety, energy savings, and adaptability to ever-changing laboratory spaces.

To most lab workers, even those who spend much of their days at or near fume hoods, these safety enclosures are part of the furniture or infrastructure. A hood is a hood is a hood—except when processes require special services or utilities. While many hoods are indeed production-level, off-the-shelf products, almost any productivity- or safety-enhancing feature may be added to standard models.

The chemical fume hood is probably the single most-used piece of equipment in research laboratories. Often, the chemical hood is shared by lab personnel, and occasionally it’s shared between labs.

Two features add efficiency, safety, and ease of use.
I’ve worked in hoods where a little piece of tissue paper attached to the bottom of the sash served as an indicator that it was exhausting the air. Somehow, that sounds like a prehistoric lab by today’s standards. Granted, it was a while ago, but I wasn’t using a dinosaur-era device.
