Liquid Chromatography

Solid phase extraction (SPE) is usually performed with disks or cartridges. Horizon Technology provides two types of extractors to help in automating the process for better precision. This allows each laboratory to choose the system that is most appropriate for their samples and workload.

In biopharmaceutical research and manufacturing, many processes involve sophisticated separations. One of the most advanced separation technologies is ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC). “There are two reasons to use UHPLC,” says Ken Cook, sales support expert, bioseparations and bio market Europe for Thermo Fisher Scientific (Waltham, MA). “The first is speed, and the second is resolution.”

Method transfer between HPLC and UHPLC has been a standard complaint against high-pressure, sub-two-micron technology. Despite the accumulation of application notes from UHPLC vendors, end users continue to cite method transfer difficulties for not switching to UHPLC.

Thermo Fisher Scientific has released a new 58-page compendium for its solid-core HPLC columns (Thermo ScientificTM AccucoreTM HPLC columns) titled, Solid Core Technical Compendium.
