The Laboratory Products Association has published its 2008 North American Survey of Laboratory Purchasing Trends. Despite the tight economy, the lab products market does not seem to be adversely impacted at the moment. Hiring of lab personnel is increasing as is spending in all product categories.

To kickoff the "Infrastructure, Sustainability & Testing Management " Conference, Sept 23-25, that the American Filtration and Separations Society (AFS) is holding in Charlotte, there will be seven short courses on September 22, 2008. Two of these courses are "Microfiltration Membrane" and "Ultrafiltration Membrane" Training.

Bruker AXS, in cooperation with The Microbeam Analysis Society, has announced that the Duncumb Award for Excellence in Microanalysis has been awarded to Professor Joseph Goldstein of UMASS Amherst. Dr. Goldstein is a scientist, educator and administrator internationally known for his work in the development of X-ray techniques in electron microscopy to determine the chemistry of small regions of solid materials, ranging from cubic micrometers to cubic nanometers, and in the field of meteoritics, the study of meteorites and other extraterrestrial materials.
